History

Stirling Henry Global Migration has a long and proud history and is Australia’s most renowned migration services firm.

Our founder, Mr. Stirling Henry, was a driving force in establishing the migration agent business and profession in Australia and in setting and maintaining its standards.

He was appointed New South Wales State Director of the Department of Immigration and Ethnic Affairs in the early 1980’s. He connected closely with the NSW business community who were looking for support from the Department to bring skilled workers to Australia on a short-term basis long before the subclass 457 visa was established.

In the early 1990’s Henry formed the first ever independent migration advice firm in Australia. This firm would soon become Stirling Henry Global Migration.

New migration agents were starting to set up in what was largely an unregulated environment. Several migration advisers and lawyers decided that the time was right for a representative body to be assembled. The Migration Institute of Australia (MIA)was established in 1992 with Henry as Chair of the first management committee.

At the time, the profession was poorly regarded by both the Department and the Government. Henry and the new MIA were keen to change that view.

Henry was one of the first immigration advisors to advocate for formal registration and for professional standards, training and sanctions for breaches. The Government agreed with the MIA that there was a need to regulate the profession and so a formal registration process for agents was started. This would provide professional standards and a compliance framework.

The Department met with the MIA and the Law Council to implement a migration registration authority.

Henry was the first migration advisor in Australia to become a Registered Migration Agent and was issued the registered migration license number ‘001’.

Stirling Henry Global Migration has been assisting the Australian business community and prospective migrants for almost three decades. The firm was a pioneer for Australian migration services. Quickly it established itself as the ‘go-to’ for Australian business.

The early 1990s witnessed a period of deep recession in Australia, what then followed was 20 years of economic growth. The Australian business landscape was changing rapidly. The ability to transfer staff to a different country or conduct a global recruitment search would set companies apart.

Stirling Henry helped companies with what is now known as ‘global mobility’ practices and became a trusted advisor to the Australian business community.

The firm also set itself the goal to provide tailored migration solutions to any individual wishing to migrate ‘down under’. Thousands of Skilled independents and families have been assisted in realising their dream of becoming Australians.

Stirling Henry Global Migration remains the most reputable and trusted migration services provider. We continue to assist individuals, their families and the Australian corporate sector with obtaining work, student, visitor, family and residency visas.
